A shadow within spirituality

I have explored different areas within spirituality. One theme I have noticed within certain groups is a belief that some behaviors are more desirable than others. This can for example be a belief that a person should be more outgoing, they should take space, and enjoy big cuddle-puddles. If you are not that person you are blocked in some way and need to work more on yourself.

I believe that we all have our shadows and blockages that we can work on. But I also believe that each person is unique, which means that there is a difference between ”this is a blockage” and ”this is me”. I mean, where would individuality go if all our personal quirks should be conformed to a ”desired personality”?

”Is a behavior/belief holding you back? What can you change so you no longer feel blocked?”

This is a question I have encountered many times. I agree in part, but the question also puts all the responsibility on the individual. Yes, we as individuals have a responsibility for our own lives, , but shouldn’t the society, community, and social group have a responsibility for the individual as well? For example:

If more introverted people find it hard to connect with other people during an event, is it their sole responsibility to become more outgoing (that is, ”release their blockage”)? Another way of looking at the situation is how can the event better accommodate differences, so that people can participate on their own terms?

One reason why I chose the tagline ”Activate your journey” is because I believe in the quirks and uniqueness of each person. I believe that there is not one true path, but that we all have our own journeys. In short, strive to work on your blockages and shadows, but also embrace the things that is you!
